Timber Lake Playhouse season opens May 15 with concerts and an outdoor party

MOUNT CARROLL – Timber Lake Playhouse opens its 60th season May 15 with a daylong party and two concerts.

Johnny Russler and the Beach Bums will play the music of Jimmy Buffet at 2 p.m., and The Sounds of Summer will close out the day with a Beach Boys tribute beginning at 7 p.m.

There will be food tents, outdoor bars and concessions, and games for all ages. Hot dogs, hamburgers, panini sandwiches, drinks and chips will be sold from noon to 6 p.m., and the TLP bars will open at noon. From 1 to 3 p.m., TLP staff will host tours of the facility. There will be a bags tournament at 2 p.m. for youth and at 4:30 p.m. for adults.

Admission is $25 for each concert, or $60 for a family pack.

“We are excited to be opening outdoors for our 60th anniversary – even if we have to begin outside,” TLP Executive Director Dan Danielowski said in a news release. “It’s been a long year without anything going on at TLP, and we’re looking forward to this summer’s events at the playhouse.”

Concerts continue with A Tribute to Buddy Holly Featuring Zachary Stevenson and the Oh Boys! at 7 p.m. May 22; and 52nd Street, playing the music of Billy Joel at 7 p.m. May 29. Tickets cost $25, or $20 for TLP Subscribers. A family pack costs $60.

TLP is at 8215 Black Oak Road; concerts are being held outside in The Barn parking lot. Bring lawn chairs or blankets.

The Summer Mainstage Season begins June 17 with “Pippin”, followed by “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee”, “Jesus Christ Superstar”, “The Robber Bridegroom”, and “Ain’t Misbehavin’”.

“The Buddy Holly Story” in September is not included in the subscription package. Subscription holders can add it for $20.

“A Closer Walk with Patsy Cline,” which is part of the subscription package, will be performed in October, and “What a Wonderful World” will premiere at Christmas.
