OREGON – Mia was making Dixon batters go ‘Oh my,’ and her Oregon softball teammates did the rest.
Junior pitcher Mia Trampel tossed a two-hitter, and the Hawks rolled to a 6-0 victory against the Duchesses on Tuesday at Oregon Park West.
Trampel struck out 13 batters, hit two and did not walk a batter in going the distance. She used primarily a fastball and a rise ball to keep the Duchesses off balance.
“I just stayed calm and did what I normally do, which is pitching fast and hard,” Trampel said.

Dixon’s main threat came in the fourth inning, when Trampel loaded the bases on two hit batsmen and a fielder’s choice that resulted in the first batter, Olivia Mowery, being safe at second base.
With one out, Trampel induced a foul popup by the Duchesses’ Mallory Coley, then an inning-ending strikeout by Arianne Smith.
In the seventh inning, Smith reached on a two-out infield single, then Izzi McCommons hit a shot up the middle that glanced off Trampel’s ribs. When she showed she was all right to continue, Trampel induced a groundout to first base by Cassidy Hussung to end the game.
Dixon had baserunners in three of seven innings, and in one of those, Mowery was quickly erased when she was thrown out on an attempted steal by Oregon catcher Liz Mois. A lack of offense has been a problem all season for Dixon (3-8, 3-4 Big Northern), according to head coach Candi Rogers.
“There have been games that it has been an issue, but we just were not making the adjustments that we needed to make in the game,” Rogers said. “We struggled at the plate.”

Oregon (12-3, 5-1), meanwhile, got its offense cranked up right away. Reilee Suter and Bella Koertner led off with bunt singles, and Mois walked to load the bases with no outs.
The next batter, Jesse Suter, hit a ground ball to McCommons, the Dixon shortstop. She threw home, but the ball and Reilee Suter arrived at virtually the same time. Suter was safe and the ball went to the backstop, allowing Koertner to score on the play as well.
In the third inning, Mia Ortega reached on a one-out error, and with two outs, Koertner bunted for a single. Mois followed with a two-run single to up the margin to 4-0. It was on a 2-2 pitch, and she laced it to right field.
“I kind of had it already in my mind that I was going to swing,” Mois said, “and so that’s what I did. I was looking for something hittable and went for it.”

In the fourth inning, Ortega led off with a single, and later scored on the third of Koertner’s three bunt singles.
In the sixth, Mois led off with a triple, then courtesy runner Olivia Wynn scored on a wild pitch.
Dixon pitcher Sam Tourtillott allowed six runs (four earned), 11 hits and two walks, with three strikeouts.
“Tourtillott is a good pitcher, and she was bringing it pretty good,” Oregon coach Nate Rogers said. “She beat Genoa-Kingston [Monday] night. We did some small-ball, and it worked pretty well early. We got a couple of lucky bounces on some hits, and Mia did the rest.”
