Fire destroys Mount Carroll home; no one injured

MOUNT CARROLL – A fire in a two-story rental house destroyed the home and its contents, but the occupants, a father and child, escaped without injury, Chief Marty Hockman said.

The state fire marshal ruled the cause undetermined, Hockman said.

The house at 603 E. Washington St. was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived shortly after 11 p.m., he said, adding that neighbors called it in.

All Carroll County fire departments responded, and firefighters were on scene until 8:30 the next morning.

The garage did not burn, and the family’s cat made it out safely, Hockman said.
