Whiteside County Airport to host air show, weekend of events

A Van's RV6/6A single-engine aircraft comes in for a landing Saturday morning at the Whiteside County Airport. A large group of pilots used the airport to practice flying in formation for the upcoming Experimental Aircraft Association Fly-In in Oshkosh Wisconsin.

ROCK FALLS – A visual feast of flying is coming to the Whiteside County Airport this weekend, as well as a variety of events.

The airport will host the Whiteside County Aviation Content Creator Awards air show event from Friday to Sunday.

Friday, the ACCA members will fly in starting around noon. The ACCA members and air show acts will be out practicing for the air show throughout the day. Food and commercial vendors will be open noon to 6 p.m. The ACCA musicians will be providing live music at 8 p.m.

Saturday, a 2K Runway Fun Run on the airport’s newly resurfaced runway 18/36 starts at 8 a.m. Register online at www.724fitnessontherock.com or register in person morning of the 2K.

There will be flight line static displays open to the public. Food and commercial vendors will be open all day.

Warbird Tours/Aircraft demo rides will be available throughout the day. Young Eagles will be giving rides for children ages 8 to 17 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Registration for rides must be completed in advance.

The Air Show will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. A local band, The Just 4 Fun Band, will start at 8 p.m., and following them will be the ACCA awards ceremony.

Sunday, from 8 a.m. until noon, purchased airplane rides will still be available. Shortly after, the ACCA members head off to Oshkosh.

The ACCA airshow is comprised of a variety of aircraft and performers and unusual things not commonly seen at air shows. There will be an aerobatic P-51, a turbine aerobatic helicopter, and an airplane that shuts off both engines in flight, to name a few.

The Misty Blues, an all-female jump team, will open the air show carrying the American flag.

The cost is $10 for an armband for all 3 days of the event. Children 12 and younger are free. Parking is $5 per car.
