National Weather Service issues heat advisory

DAVENPORT, Iowa — The National Weather Service in the Quad Cities has issued a heat advisory for northwest Illinois including Whiteside County. The heat advisory also affects areas of eastern Iowa and northwest Missouri.

Daytime temperatures could reach into the low to mid 90s. The heat index values are projected to be in the 100- to 105-degree range. The advisory takes effect at noon and lasts until 7 p.m.

People are advised to take precautions against the heat by drinking plenty of water, wearing light-colored and loose-fitting clothing, take breaks in air-conditioning or the shade. People who must be in the sun are advised to wear sunscreen and a hat. Strenuous activities should be rescheduled for the evening, the advisory states.

The forecast said that severe thunderstorms are possible starting in the afternoon and heading into evening. These storms are categorized as Level 1 to Level 2, which are the lowest-risk warnings.

Level 2 storms are possible for Lee and Ogle counties and eastern portions of Carroll and Whiteside counties.

The main concern for these storms are damaging wind gusts. People are asked to be weather-wise and be alert for warnings if the storms intensify.
