CGH Health Foundation awards 10 scholarships in nursing

Graduates file into the gym Friday night for the 2021 commencement ceremony at Sauk Valley College. Last year's graduation was completely virtual.

STERLING — CGH Health Foundation awarded 10 scholarships in the areas of nursing and health care on Friday, it said in a news release.

In total, $20,500 was awarded. The money comes from donors, said Martha Kophamer of Morrison, who is chairwoman of the foundation board.

“The Foundation has had a long-standing scholarship program during our 34-year history,” said Kophamer. “We are committed to supporting individuals who are pursuing a career in the healthcare profession and want to thank our many contributors who make this possible.”

The scholarships and their recipients are:

$3,000 Althea Larson Nursing Scholarship to Victoria Kronenberg of Sterling and Dawn Mace of Sterling who are pursuing an associate degree in nursing from Sauk Valley Community College; and to Ashleigh Chapman of Sterling who is studying for an associate degree in nursing from Highland Community College.

$1,000 Edgar and Florence Hall Nursing Scholarship to Amy Marcinkiewicz of Tampico who is pursuing a bachelor of science degree in nursing.

$1,500 Ron Smeltzer Nursing Scholarship to Madeline Gasso of Sterling, who is seeking a bachelor of science degree in nursing at Roosevelt University.

$1,000 Bill and Marrietta Lilly Healthcare Scholarship to Ashlee Griffin of Forreston, who is seeking a bachelor of science degree in nursing at Northern Illinois University.

$3,000 Sterling Rock Falls Community Trust Healthcare Scholarship to Serena Lahey of Rock Falls, who is pursuing a master’s degree in health care and nursing administration from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville; and Nicole Stepp of Shannon, who is seeking an associate degree in nursing at Rasmussen University.

$1,000 Ed Andersen Healthcare Scholarship to Ashleigh Chapman of Sterling, who is pursuing a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Highland Community College and Anna Austin of Rock Falls, who is seeking a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Western Governors University.

To be eligible for a CGH Health Foundation scholarship, students must have already been accepted into their professional field of study. Online programs are funded as are traditional courses at a campus. The next scholarship application will be available Feb. 1, 2022, at www.cghmc.com.
