Wine bar offers place to sip, savor time together

A casual spot where friends can catch up over drinks or place for a weekly date night, that’s the way owners Brick and Tonya Boss describe their new business, Abby’s Wine II in Dixon.

“It’s the type of place we like to go,” said Brick Boss, describing the new location that opened in April of this year after a complete building remodel to take the former cellphone store and turn it into a cozy, rustic looking wine bar.

The venue is named for the Boss’ oldest daughter and inspired by places they’ve visited during their travels, Brick Boss said. The venue serves wine, beer and cocktails and they hope to launch a food menu in the coming months to include small bites that pair well with featured wines and monthly cocktail specialties.

Alli Miskell joined the business this fall bringing her years of experience in hospitality to help develop the wine bar and make the business vision come to light.

“Our vision is a locally-based wine tasting room,” Miskell said.

In addition to the large choice in wines available Abby’s Wine II features the local winery August Hill Winery in Utica, as well as Galena Cellars.

And there are the fun seasonal cocktails guests can try as well. For December be sure to check out the caramel apple sangria.

While Abby’s Wine II is a great spot to meet with friends and enjoy a glass of wine it offers more. Catch the big game on a large-screen television or if inclined, try luck in the gaming area. Miskell said in the new year she hopes to bring in some special events including a trivia night.

“I think that would be a cool mix and fun thing especially during winter,” Miskell said.

Brick Boss said the vision is a place to meet and discuss business, catch up with friends or enjoy a glass of wine with your spouse. Having grown up in the Sauk Valley area he and his wife are happy to launch the new business and continue to build the interest in Dixon.
