New Year, BETTER You! Simplify Your Way to a Happier, Healthier 2025

Sterling Park District - New Year, BETTER You! Simplify Your Way to a Happier, Healthier 2025

A new year means another new opportunity to make some resolutions, and the Sterling Park District is here to help. This doesn’t have to be the BEST year of your life, but you can definitely make it a BETTER year. Start by thinking ahead and creating a manageable, realistic plan. Like Benjamin Franklin said, “If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail.”

Instead of having the mindset of “This year, my goal is to…,” begin with “This month, my goal is to….” Every day is an opportunity to make an improvement. Eventually, those days will add up, and before you know it, you’ll notice your progress.

You might have a piece of clothing you’re hanging on to for “whenever I lose a few pounds,” but maybe you want to get healthier to live longer for your kids and/or grandchildren. Perhaps your dog deserves longer walks. Did you know that exercising for as little as 10 minutes will result in a release of oxytocin in your brain, which makes you feel happy?! Are there people in your life who could benefit from you being not only healthier, but happier?

Be sure to acknowledge your wins and reward yourself for hitting those milestones, no matter how small. Wellness at Westwood offers terrific ways to treat yourself, and your body, by enjoying services like Hydro Massage, Infrared Sauna, Cryotherapy, and more.

The Sterling Park District has a variety of ways to get you moving and have fun — whether it’s swimming at the Duis Center, taking a Cardio Tennis class, or getting some friends together and trying Pickleball! A great place to start is attending a Westwood Fitness Orientation. This is a free, one-hour session for members and non-members to explore the facility and all the ways to become a better you!
