The guest speaker at Amboy's Memorial Day ceremony reminded the audience that honoring the country's fallen can be an act of unity.

Kiera Karlson finished out their playlist, Ellie McLaughlin talked about change and Jadyn Whelchel gave a familiar farewell as the Amboy High School Class of 2026 graduated Sunday.

It was fitting that members of the groups who inspired her would be the ones to bring the news. Among the group who told Joyce Schamberger that she had been selected as the 2026 Sauk Valley Community College Distinguished Alumna were members of her family and the community.

The cost of all-sports passes for the Amboy School District is going up but tech and registration fees for students will remain the same for the 2026-27 school year.

Eighteen students will participate in the final graduation ceremony May 20 at Clipper Kiddies Christian Preschool, Amboy’s only private preschool. The preschool will officially close in June.

The National Alliance on Mental Illness is a national organization that provides advocacy, support and education about mental health. The Amboy High School NAMI chapter is the first Lee County high school chapter, adviser and AHS teacher Emily Rose said.

Samantha Nauman will attend Sauk Valley Community College to study nursing and possibly attend esthetics school to work in a med-spa.
