A Whiteside County judge has ruled that enough evidence exists to move forward with a criminal case that accuses a Sterling man of setting an October fire that destroyed a Galt home.
Rodney Swan has been held in the Whiteside County Jail since mid-January, when he was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm. He is accused of shooting himself in the thigh when a loaded gun tucked into his waistband discharged as he was pulling up his pants.
Sterling and Rock Falls firefighters were called at 10 p.m. Tuesday to the burning home in the 5400 block of Anne Street, Galt, in rural Sterling.

No one was injured in a fire that broke out around 3 a.m. at Winstead Pallet Salvage, 13420 Galt Road in rural Sterling, the Sterling Fire Department said.
