A presidential visit, a double homicide in Algonquin and an ‘American Idol’ semi-finalist all made headlines in McHenry County this past year.
“It all could’ve been corrected with a basic understanding and ability to understand running an office and knowing what the statute is and communicating,” the McHenry County auditor said.
The position is normally elected by the voters and became vacant Tuesday after the County Board removed the superintendent
The McHenry County Board voted unanimously Tuesday night to remove Regional Superintendent of Education Leslie Schermerhorn from her elected office following years of troubled audits.
Removing Regional Superintendent Leslie Schermerhorn "is in the best interest of the county and the people we serve, the students and the faculty of all these school districts,” said board member Paula Yensen, D-Lake in the Hills
McHenry County Board members said it is an unfortunate, but necessary course of action they must take to remove the regional superintendent after years of failed audits and little being done to correct significant mishandling of funds
