The Putnam County Junior High Pumas defeated Peru Parkside 6-1 to capture the Class 2A Fieldcrest Regional championship on Saturday.
The Pumas will take a 19-2 record to the IESA 1A State Tournament to face Lexington (16-5) at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Champions Field in Bloomington.
The Bi-County District 20 champion Junior League Softball All-Star team, which reached the state tournament, were recognized before the Pistol Shrimp game in Peru on Thursday, Aug. 1.
Nicholas Currie, a 2023 Putnam County High School grad, has been selected to play for Team Illinois against Missouri at Busch Stadium in St. Louis following the Cardinals-Giants game.
