Joliet police say teen stabbed over social media dispute

A 16-year-old girl has been arrested in Joliet after she was accused of stabbing a 15-year-old girl over a social media dispute, police said.

About 2:45 p.m. Monday, officers responded to the stabbing at the 2100 block of Newport Drive, according to a news release from Joliet Police Sgt. Tizoc Landeros.

“The victim and suspect know each other. This incident stems from a dispute through social media between the victim and suspect,” Landeros said.

The victim was stabbed in the torso area of her body and she was taken to a hospital for surgery, Landeros said.

About 6:30 p.m. the same day, the 16-year-old girl went to the police department with her parents and she was taken into custody, Landeros said.

The girl was later taken to the River Valley Juvenile Detention Center in Joliet on charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery on a public way, and aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, Landeros said.
