A Chicago man has been arrested on a charge of recklessly firing a gun in an Oct. 3 shooting that damaged a vehicle in Joliet.
About 4 a.m. Monday, Anthony Quilambaqui, 19, was taken into custody on a charge of reckless discharge of a firearm and criminal damage to property in connection with the incident, Joliet police said.
The shooting was reported Oct. 3 in the 2900 block of Indian Springs Court, Joliet Police Sgt. Tizoc Landeros said. Officers initially responded to a fight before learning that a shooting had occurred.
The victim in the incident told officers that he didn’t personally know Quilambaqui but he used to date his girlfriend, Landeros said.
In the events leading up to the shooting, a neighbor told the victim that there was a person “dressed in all black” in his front yard.
The victim went outside to investigate and got into a fight with Quilambaqui, Landeros said.
“Quilambaqui ran to his vehicle and retrieved a firearm. The victim retreated to his residence. The victim heard several gunshots,” Landeros said.
Quilambaqui fled the area, Landeros said. The victim’s vehicle was “struck 12 times,” he said.
After Quilambaqui’s arrest Monday, he was taken to the Will County jail.
