Joliet man killed in hit-and-run on Chicago Street

The Joliet police are investigating a hit-and-run after a pedestrian was fatally struck by a car Saturday night.

A 62-year-old Joliet man was found lying on the sidewalk near the intersection of Fourth Avenue and Chicago Street when officers arrived at around 9:30 p.m., according to a news release from the police department.

The victim was in critical condition when the Joliet Fire Department transported him to Ascension Saint Joseph-Joliet Hospital, where he later died from his injuries, according to police.

Witnesses told the officers the victim was walking eastbound across Chicago Street when he was then struck by a silver sedan that was traveling north on Chicago Street, according to police.

Officers were able to obtain CCTV video footage of the accident and the video shows a silver sedan traveling north bound on Chicago Street at a high rate of speed, according to police. The CCTV video also shows the victim being struck by this vehicle, police said.

Joliet police are searching for the silver sedan with front- end damage, according to police.

The Joliet Police Traffic Unit is conducting the investigation.
