Joliet electoral board will meet Monday on City Council candidate challenges

Election is April 1

The Joliet Electoral Board holds a special meeting to hear the case of John Dillan against our city council candidates for April 1 election at Joliet City Hall on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2024 in Joliet.

The Joliet electoral board reconvenes at 10 a.m. on Monday to consider petition objections against three candidates for City Council in the April 1 election.

The meeting was originally scheduled for 10 a.m. on Wednesday but the city sent out a notice Tuesday afternoon saying it was moved to Monday, Dec. 23.

It will be the third meeting of the electoral board on the challenges, which could keep candidates off the ballot for the three at-large council seats.

On the agenda for Wednesday are candidates Larry Crawford, Jim Lanham and Marzell L. Richardson III.

The board voted last week to remove Crawford from the ballot and will make the decision official on Wednesday,

Incumbent council member Cesar Guerrero also faced a petition challenge but withdrew his candidacy to seek the position of Joliet Township supervisor.

The hearing is in the council chambers at City Hall, 150 W. Jefferson St.

Five other candidates who filed for the April 1 election do not face challenges.

They are at-large council members Joe Clement and Jan Quillman, and candidates Damon Zdunich, Juan Moreno and Glenda Wright-McCullum.

The Joliet City Council is comprised of three at-large members who are elected citywide, and five district members who are elected in specific districts of the city. The district members and the mayor will be up for election in 2027.
