Lockport — The Lockport Township High School District 205 board has announced it will appoint an interim board member this week to fill the seat vacated by former member Zyan Navarra.
Although the seat is up for election April 1, the district announced Friday that it now is accepting applications for a temporary replacement on the board. The interim member will serve in the seat until the elected board members are sworn in in May 2025.
It is possible for current candidates for the April election to submit their names for appointment consideration.
Interested individuals can submit their applications until 4 p.m Friday, Jan. 3, 2025.
The application materials must include a resume or CV and a letter of interest that includes the applicant’s name, address, and contact information; the number of years they have lived in the district; leadership positions the candidate has held in the community; their professional and educational background, reasons for their interest in the position; and ideas and goals for the district.
In order to qualify for the position, candidates must be U.S. citizens and at least 18 years old. They also must be registered voters and need to have lived within the boundaries of LTHS District 205 for at least one year. Candidates with a history as a sex offender will be automatically disqualified.
Letters of interest and resumes can be submitted in hard copy by mail or in person at the District 205 Administrative Center,1323 East Seventh St., care of Board Secretary Kathy Maxwell. All materials must be labeled “Board of Education Vacancy.”

Navarra’s resignation was announced Dec. 16, after his disclosure that he had gotten married earlier this year and was no longer living within the district boundaries.
