The Plainfield Park District recently received a $260,000 grant to provide “unique recreational amenities” for the 5.7-acre Creekside Crossing South development, according to a news release from the Plainfield Park District.
The site is in the southwest region of the park district.
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources administered the Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development Grant, according to the release.
“The site is part of the Creekside housing development, which stalled out after 2008 but restarted in the past few years on the south side of Renwick Road,” according to the release. “The park site is needed for the new residents.”
Project elements will include playground structures for ages 2 to 5 and 5 to 12, benches, a court play area, a fitness pod, an open play area, an outdoor game area, picnic tables, a seating area with a pollinator garden shelter, three holes of disc golf and a walking trail, according to the release.
The project elements will meet or exceed Americans With Disability Act guidelines, according to the release.
The Plainfield Park District will gather public input for the playground equipment and play court designs. The time and place are not yet determined, according to the release.
The Plainfield Park District previously held a public meeting Aug. 16, 2023, for input on the project’s elements.
In addition, “an online survey was communicated via the local homeowners association and had 137 responses,” according to the release.
