A Joliet man is in jail after a domestic disturbance in which a woman was shot in the leg, Joliet police said.
Arties Titus, 26, of Joliet, was arrested for domestic battery and is being held in the Will County Adult Detention Facility, according to a news release from the Joliet Police Department.
He also was wanted on a Will County warrant for failing to appear in court on previous disorderly conduct charges, according to the release.
At 9:39 p.m. Tuesday, Joliet police responded to a home in the 600 block of Spring Leaf Drive after receiving a report of someone being shot, according to the release.
When Joliet police arrived, they found a 27-year-old woman on the garage floor with one gunshot wound in the left calf, according to the release. Her injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, according to the release.
During the shooting investigation, numerous family members continued creating a disturbance among themselves, according to the release.
Numerous people in the garage also became confrontational with the officers investigating the shooting and refused to cooperate, according to the release.
“It is believed that the shooting took place during a disturbance in the garage between family members, and the victim may have not been the intended target,” according to the release.
Police said Titus also punched a 25-year-old female family member in the face in the presence of police officers.
The woman who was shot provided an initial statement to Joliet police and did not wish to cooperate beyond that, according to the release.
The Joliet Fire Department took her to Ascension Saint Joseph – Joliet, according to the release.
