Channahon teacher wins Will County’s Take It Outside Challenge

Forest preserve district contest ended Dec. 14

Sarah Gooden, a fifth-grade teacher from Channahon, won the Fall Frolic session of the Forest Preserve District of Will County’s Take It Outside Challenge. She was joined on missions by her husband, Todd, and 10-year-old son, Callen.

Sarah Goodin of Channahon completed all 212 of the Forest Preserve District of Will County Take It Outside Challenge’s Fall Frolic missions to win first place and a $500 Amazon gift card.

Goodin heard about the contest while participating in Woods Walk hiking program and decided to give it a try, according to a news release from the forest preserve district. Her husband, Todd, and her 10-year-old son, Callen, joined her on many missions. Goodin is a fifth-grade teacher at Minooka Intermediate School and shared her experiences in the Take It Outside Challenge with her students, according to the release.

Four participants will share the second- and third-place gift cards, totaling $400. They are Frances Galdek of Minooka, Michael Twardak of Channahon, Roxy Summers of Lemont and Cynthia Abel of Oswego, according to the release.

The Fall Frolic began on Oct. 6 and ended Dec. 14. Over 600 participants submitted 32,000 missions via the Goosechase app to earn points and prizes. The Nature Foundation of Will County provided funding for the campaign.
