Inmate from Stateville Correctional Center in Crest Hill dies at hospital

An inmate from an infirmary at Stateville Correctional Center in Crest Hill has died at a hospital, but the cause and manner of his death is not yet known.

On Tuesday, the 38-year-old man was declared dead at Ascension Alexian Brothers hospital in Elk Grove Village, according to a daily case ledger and data from the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The cause and manner of the man’s death still was pending as of Friday.

“At this time, we’d only be able to confirm the death of an individual in custody from Stateville’s infirmary at an outside hospital on [Tuesday],” said Naomi Puzzello, Illinois Department of Corrections spokeswoman.

She said there is an “ongoing investigation.”
