Joliet hosting free emergency preparedness workshop

The Joliet Public Library is seen Thursday, Dec. 19, 2024, at 150 N. Ottawa St. in Joliet.

The city of Joliet’s Office of Emergency and Disaster Management will host a quarterly workshop on community emergency and disaster preparedness.

The two-hour workshops will be from 9 to 11 a.m. and again from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, at the Joliet Public Library, 150 N. Ottawa St., in McGuire Room 109.

There is no fee to attend and no registration required.

Topics covered in January’s workshop include:

• services provided by the Joliet Office of Emergency and Disaster Management
• understanding the nature of emergencies, disasters and catastrophic events
• personal disaster preparedness
• home safety
• building an emergency kit (part one)
• winter weather preparedness

John Lukancic, who is director of the Office of Emergency and Disaster Management, a certified associate emergency manager and an Illinois professional emergency manager, will present at the event.
