Joliet shooting damages Uber driver’s vehicle

An Uber driver’s vehicle in Joliet was struck by gunfire by an unknown shooter.

About 2:10 a.m. Friday, officers responded to the Shorewood Police Department, where the 47-year-old driver made a report of the shooting, Joliet Police Sgt. Dwayne English said.

No injuries were reported in the shooting.

Officers learned that the driver was in a Toyota RAV4 with a male customer and traveling near North Broadway and Russell streets shortly after 1 a.m. Friday, English said.

At that point, the driver heard two gunshots and realized his Toyota RAV4 had been struck twice by gunfire, English said.

“It was unknown where the gunfire came from,” English said.

The driver then continued onward and dropped off the customer at his destination, English said. Afterward, the driver drove to the Shorewood Police Department.

That’s when Shorewood police contacted Joliet police, English said.

The vehicle appeared to have been struck by gunfire once in the driver-side door and once in the rear driver-side door, English said.

Officers responded to the 900 block of North Broadway Street about 1:30 a.m. Friday, but they did not find anything at the time, he said.

Anyone with video footage or information on the shooting should call the Joliet Police Department’s Investigation Division at 815-724-3020.
