A Lockport woman was issued a citation for allegedly violating Scott’s Law after crashing into the rear end of a parked Illinois State Police squad vehicle in Woodridge.
About 2 p.m. Tuesday, a trooper was outside a squad vehicle with the emergency lights activated handling a crash in the northbound lanes of Interstate 55, near Woodward Avenue.
A Hyundai sedan “failed to move over and rear-ended the parked squad car,” according to a statement from Illinois State Police.
The parked squad vehicle “blocked three troopers on the scene from being hit,” police said.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
The squad vehicle was towed from the scene because of damage sustained in the crash, police said.
Alyssa Ceballos, 23, was issued traffic citations of driving too fast for conditions and violating Scott’s Law.
Scott’s Law requires all drivers to move over when approaching an emergency vehicle or any vehicle with its emergency or hazard lights activated.
The law is named after Chicago Fire Department Lt. Scott Gillen, who was struck and killed by an intoxicated driver while assisting at a crash on the Dan Ryan Expressway in 2000.
