Bolingbrook — Will County Coroner Laurie Summers announced Thursday that the skeletal remains discovered last month in a Bolingbrook park have been identified.

The remains, which were discovered the afternoon of Dec. 14 in the Hidden Lakes Preserve, have been identified as those of David A. McCord, a 36-year-old man from Minneapolis, Minnesota, who had been reported missing by family members in July 2024, according to the news release from the coroner’s office.

The remains were discovered by a resident looking through the wooded area for deer antlers, who notified the police, according to the release.

Bolingbrook police investigators searched the area and discovered several personal items of McCord’s including an ID, according to the release.

The body was identified with assistance from the Minneapolis police, who obtained a DNA sample from McCord’s family for comparison, University of Illinois forensic anthropologist Dr. Cris Hughes and Independent Forensics of Lombard, according to the release.

A human skull discovered in the same vicinity in October also is undergoing additional testing to determine whether it also is McCord’s or is related to the case, according to the coroner’s office.
