The National Alliance on Mental Illness for Will-Grundy is scheduling support groups, education courses and community presentations at no cost to residents throughout Will and Grundy counties in January.

Support groups are offered at no cost several times each week throughout the region, according to a release from NAMI. Registration is not required.
The NAMI Connection Group is designed for adults ages 18 and older who are living with symptoms of a mental health condition, according to the organization.
This group provides a safe space to connect with one another, share stories and receive support and encouragement, according to the release.
The NAMI Family Support Group is for caregivers, friends or family of a loved one with a mental health condition.
“Group members can help one another by utilizing their collective lived experiences and learned wisdom,” according to the release.
The Family to Family Class is a nine-week curriculum that provides a supportive and empowering space for family members and caregivers to make connections, gain understanding and learn valuable tools to help support loved ones facing mental health challenges.
“Attendees learn how to support a loved one with compassion and understanding, how to communicate effectively and solve problems, how to manage stress and make self-care a priority, and learn of local resources,” according to the release.
Registration is required and is available at namiwillgrundy.org/family-to-family-class.

NAMI is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization, according to the organization’s website.
NAMI Will-Grundy has been a provider of local peer-support services for people living with a mental health condition and their loved ones for almost 20 years.
