Joliet — Joliet police are investigating a crash that resulted in two people injured and are looking for a driver who allegedly fled the scene.
Police responded to a traffic collision at 2:56 a.m. Sunday in the area of North Chicago and Benton streets, according to a release from the Joliet Police Department.
A preliminary investigation of the crash determined that a Chevrolet Aveo and a Saturn Aura were both traveling southbound on Chicago Street approaching Benton when the Saturn is believed to have collided with the back end of the Chevrolet, causing it to roll over near the intersection, according to the release.
The crash resulted in multiple injuries, said Joliet Police Public Affairs Sgt. Dwayne English.
The Saturn’s driver, who has not been identified, allegedly exited his vehicle and ran, abandoning the vehicle, English said.
The driver of the Chevrolet, a 34-year-old man, reportedly sustained minor injuries but declined transportation to the hospital, English said.
A 43-year-old male passenger of the Chevrolet needed to be extricated from the vehicle by the Joliet Fire Department and was transported to Ascension Saint Joseph - Joliet Hospital in critical but stable condition, according to English. The man was later transported to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood for further treatment, he said.
Police believe those involved in the crash were also involved in an altercation on Saturday night at Los Gavenos bar, located at 1101 N. Hickory St., however the investigation is ongoing, English said.
