Joliet MLK event on Sunday canceled

Other events still being held

A church service that was to be held in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. on Sunday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church has been canceled.

The event was canceled because of “unforeseen circumstances,” said Marcus Mars, vice president of the Joliet branch of the NAACP.

Other events are being held this weekend to honor Martin Luther King Jr.

On Saturday, a banquet with awards and a panel discussion will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at D’Amore Banquets, 113 Republic Ave., Joliet.

Tickets are $45 and can be purchased on the Zeffy website.

On Monday, an MLK Day of Service will originate at Joliet Central High School.

Volunteers will help on a variety of projects in the community. Those interested in volunteering should visit jthsorg.finalsite.com.
