Joliet home damaged in Monday fire

Joliet firefighters responded to a house fire in the 1200 block of Gage Street in Joliet on the afternoon of Monday,  Jan.  20, 2025.

A home in the 1200 block of Gage Street in Joliet was damaged by fire on Monday afternoon.

The Joliet Fire Department responded at 2:30 p.m. to the report of a two-story structure fire, according to a news release from the fire department.

The first crews arriving on the scene were met with heavy black smoke coming from the home, according to the release.

Crews were sent to the roof to ventilate the house while others extinguished the fire on the first and second floors, according to the release.

The house suffered fire, smoke and heavy water damage, according to the release.

Occupants of the home were able to safely get out prior to firefighters arriving and no one was injured, according to the release.

The fire was declared under control at 3:15 p.m. and crews remained on the scene for 90 minutes extinguishing hot spots, according to the release.

Fire crews from stations 1,3, 4, 5 and 6 responded to the scene.

The Joliet Fire Department said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
