Joliet schools going to online learning Tuesday

Both District 86 and District 204 cite weather conditions

Due to the weather conditions, some Joliet area schools are switching to e-learning on Tuesday.

The National Weather Service is calling for wind chills to be between 25 to 30 below zero and daytime high temperatures barely reaching above zero from Monday night through Tuesday.

All Joliet Public Schools District 86 Schools announced there will be no in-person classes or after-school activities on Tuesday. Students should log into their district technology devices at their regular school start time, according to a news release from District 86.

Joliet Township High School District 204 is also using an emergency E-learning day on Tuesday.

“This means that students complete assignments online and staff work from home. Students and staff should not report to school tomorrow except for maintenance staff who should check with their direct supervisor,” District 204 stated in a release announcing the decision.

Coaches and activity sponsors will contact students directly if events or practices are canceled, the district stated. The regularly scheduled District 204 Board of Education meeting will take place as planned Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Board Room of the JTHS Administrative Center, according to the district.

University of St. Francis will close all Joliet campuses Tuesday and all student activities at the campuses have been canceled for the day. Livestream video and asynchronous on-line courses will continue as scheduled, according to the a release from the university.

Blended courses should shift to remote instruction. In-person classes should shift to remote instruction or provide an alternative learning assignment, according to the release. Students are advised to check their email and Canvas for any additional information from their instructors.

Only essential personnel are to report to work for their regularly-scheduled hours.
