Son of Lockport Township fire trustee charged with arson

The son of a Lockport Township Fire Protection District trustee has been charged with arson in connection with a fire on a vacant property he owned.

Zach Siegel, 41, of Crest Hill has been identified by police as the suspect responsible for setting fire to a vacant home in the 1200 block of Caton Farm Road on May 10, 2024, according to the Lockport Township Fire Protection District.

The fire caused an estimated $150,000 to $200,000 in damage, according to the fire district.

Siegel is the son of Paul Siegel, the owner of Siegel Cottonwood Farms, who also serves on the Lockport Township Fire Protection District Board of Trustees, according to the fire district.

The Lockport Township Fire Protection District arson investigators worked with the Crest Hill Police Department on the investigation, according to the fire district.

Zach Siegel is charged with arson, a Class 2 felony. Charges were filed with the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office, and a warrant for Zach Siegel’s arrest has been issued, according to the fire district.

A copy of the warrant has been provided to his attorney, but he has not turned himself in, nor has he been taken into custody, according to the fire district.

Authorities are urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
