Joliet — Illinois State Police reported that Troop 3 units were handling an investigation into a eight vehicle crash on eastbound Interstate 80 near Larkin Avenue in Joliet.
The Joliet Fire Department reported that the crash occurred at 3:21 p.m. and units were dispatched to the scene following a call from ISP.
There are no fatalities, but police said several minor injuries have been reported. One driver needed fire department assistance to be freed from their vehicle, and five ambulances transported seven individuals to areas hospitals, according to the Joliet Fire Department
Seven additional people were involved in the accident but declined medical care, according to the Joliet Fire Department.
Following the crash all eastbound lanes on I-80 were closed for about one hour, but reopened shortly before 4:30 p.m. after tow trucks removed the vehicles from the scene.
The investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing and ISP said more information is not currently available.
