COMPETITIVE CHEERLEADING
IHSA State Finals: Lemont won the state championship in the Medium Team division with a score of 97.50. That beat out runner-up Providence Catholic’s score of 97.22. Lemont’s team, coached by Bree Grady-Simpson, includes seniors Claire Auw, Jordan Cryer, Mia Federovich, Grace Markun, Ella Mierzwa, Kelsey Schmidt, Molly Wallace and Ashley Wrublik; juniors Samantha DuVall, Ella Phelan, Morgan Sadelski and Victoria Swanstrom; sophomores Hailey Borner, Emma Federovich, Allyson Fluder, Natalie Oprondek, Alexa Verhoeven and Melanie Wallace; and freshmen Emma Schrimpl and Sabrina Tavolino.
Morris was fourth in the division with a score of 93.09.
In the Large School division, Lockport finished sixth with a score of 90.16, while Lincoln-Way West (88.68) was ninth and Minooka (88.38) finished 10th. In the Small Team division, Wilmington finished third with a score of 91.08.

Class 3A Normal Community Regional: Joliet Catholic Academy won the team title with a total of 244.5 points, topping runner-up Lockport’s total of 201.0. BOYS BASKETBALL
Plainfield East 64, Downers Grove South 59: The Bengals won their fifth straight game behind 21 points, 10 rebounds and five assists from KJ Miller. Josh Stone had 14 points and five rebounds, while Jayden Cawthon had nine points and four steals.
St. Ignatius 70, Joliet Catholic Academy 58: Jayden Armstrong led the Hilltoppers with 15 points, while Donavyn Simmons scored 11. Eli Passehl added 10.
Naperville North 62, Plainfield North 50: Pierre Pointer and Quintin Wiencek each scored 15 points for the Tigers (16-10) in the nonconference loss.
Morris 63, Rochelle 61: Morris trailed 43-42 entering the fourth quarter, but rallied for the Interstate 8 Conference win.
Jack Wheeler led Morris with 26 points and seven rebounds, while Brett Bounds had 21 points and five rebounds. Landon Norris added nine points and three assists.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Joliet Central 63, Stagg 33: The Steelmen improved to 14-16 with the nonconference win.
Providence Catholic 55, Trinity 37: The Celtics took third in the Girls Catholic Athletic Conference Tournament with the win. They were led by Taylor Healy with 18 points, Molly Knight with 17 and Eilish Raines with nine.
