Firefighters responded to a fire in the basement of a residence in the 600 block of Cornelia Street.
Shortly after 4:20 a.m. Monday, firefighters responded to the incident within three minutes of the call, according to a statement from the Joliet Fire Department.
Residents were alerted by smoke detectors and exited the residence, fire officials said. Crews were able to extinguish the fire and control damage to the basement.
The scene was declared under control about 4:42 a.m. on Monday, fire officials said.
No injures or fatalities were reported in the incident.
A cat was found and removed from the residence, fire officials.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
