‘Tony N’ Tina’s Wedding’ features real food, dance and interaction in a real church

Reserve tickets for this Joliet event by Oct. 31.

Many couples postponed their weddings last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the fictional “Tony and Tina” was no exception.

Breast Intentions of Illinois was bringing “Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding” to Joliet as a fundraiser for its organization in 2020 until a decision to cancel was made due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The “wedding” is now back on for Nov. 5 – and you are invited. The deadline to order tickets is Oct. 31. Tickets bought for the original date will be honored.

“Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding” is an immersive performance of an Italian-American wedding that requires participation from the audience. All proceeds benefit Breast Intentions of Illinois, founded by Lou Ann Peck of Shorewood in 2010. The organization helps breast cancer patients with rent, utility bills, medical and cosmetic needs, groceries, car payments, gas cards and insurance, according to a news release from the organization.

“It’s just going to be the best evening ever,” Peck said in a 2020 Herald-News story.

A traveling troupe of 19 actors portray the bride and groom, their wedding party and their immediate family, Peck said. But everyone, cast and guests, will interact as if they’re attending a real wedding.

“The cast members get the audience involved,” Peck said. “There will be music and singing.”

“Guests” will arrive at the Jacob Henry Mansion in Joliet starting at 5:30 p.m. and spend an hour enjoying cocktails and appetizers while mingling with the cast.

At 6:30 p.m., everyone moves to Central Church for the “wedding ceremony.” Thirty minutes later, it’s back to the Jacob Henry Mansion for the reception, which includes the Italian-style dinner.

“That’s where the big party begins,” Peck said in the story. “It’s going to be fun for everyone.”

A updated news release from organizers said attendees must wear facemasks during the performance except when they are eating and drinking, per the actors’ request and in compliance with state health guidelines. Attendees also must social distance during cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, according to the release.

Many stations will be set up throughout each of the buildings with hand sanitizer and masks.

“At this time, the Jacob Henry Mansion is not requiring proof of vaccination or COVID-19 test,” the release said.
