So when the family wanted to order from Skooter’s RoadHouse one night, I foolishly asked, “Skooter’s has food?”
I’d heard of the Shorewood venue. And I knew it was a bar that featured a lot of live music and special events. Turns out, Skooter’s offers a lot of food, from appetizers to barbecue to sandwiches to brunch.
And the family ordered a nice sampling: pretzel sticks for $7, cheese sticks for $7, 12 Parmesan garlic boneless chicken wings for $14, a chicken-fried steak sandwich with onion rings for $10, a Tex-Mex steak fajitas meal on flour tortillas for $16, a side of fries for $3, a ribeye steak sandwich with fries for $12, nachos with steak for $10, and a bacon-cheddar burger with tots for $11.
Here is what we thought:
Pretzel sticks
Soft and warm with plenty of salt – yum!
Cheese sticks, onion rings, fries
Crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, warm throughout.
Parmesan garlic chicken wings
Tender and full of flavor, with a nice sharpness to cut through the richness of the wings. Visually lovely and glossy from the sauce.
Chicken-fried steak sandwich
Great flavor, and loved all the toppings that came with the sandwich. I actually enjoyed it for lunch the next day because I’d eaten way too many appetizers. And it reheated very well.
Tex-Mex steak fajitas meal on flour tortillas
The generous fajitas dish was enough for two meals. I made two large soft-shell tacos of juicy beef with sautéed onions and peppers, and still had enough for another three – so I shared.
The tortillas were warmed with crispy edges, and the whole meal came with lettuce, tomatoes, guacamole, sour cream, rice and black beans. Everything was seasoned very well.
Ribeye steak sandwich with fries
The ribeye sandwich was tender and delicious.
Nachos
The nachos were luscious, with plenty of toppings to go around; ours came with jalapeños and guacamole. Perfect for one person or to share. The homemade queso went really well with the pico. We added steak to our nachos, and it was tender and nicely seasoned.
Bacon-cheddar burger with tots
The burger veggies were placed to the side, so they wouldn’t get warm and soft. The burger was well-cooked and enhanced by generous cheese and bacon. The bun was nicely toasted.
The ample tots were crunchy and well-seasoned.
Random comments about the carryout
We ordered our food to go, and the way staff packed the items was phenomenal. The clear, heavy-duty bags had handles and a tamperproof seal. This also helped keep everything hot until we brought it home.
