More free COVID-19 testing opportunities in Joliet, Plainfield this week

The IDPH provides regular drive-thru testing for free to the public

Will County residents will have more opportunities to get a free COVID-19 test this week in Joliet and Plainfield.

The Illinois Department of Public Health has been holding free, drive-thru testing at sites all over the state throughout the pandemic.

Anyone can be tested regardless of symptoms or immigration status. There is no cost to the individual for testing, but they should bring their insurance card if they have one. Insurance is not required.

Specimens will be collected using a simple nasal swab.

On Wednesday, the IDPH will be at Child Care Resource and Referral, located at 801 N. Larkin Ave. in Joliet from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Then on both Saturday and Sunday, testing will be held at the Spanish Community Center, located at 309 N. Eastern Ave. in Joliet from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Finally, on Sunday, the IDPH will be testing at Plainfield North High School, located at 12005 248th Ave. in Plainfield from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.

The Will County Health Department has also been providing free tests to the public every week around the county.

Will County’s rolling average COVID-19 test positivity rate has declined steadily over the last several weeks since surging last fall.

As of Feb. 5, the county’s positivity rate stood at 5.7%. The South Suburban Region, which includes Will and Kankakee counties, had a rate of 5.3%.
