LocalLit book preview: Hogan’s Hope is not just another book about dogs

Retired teacher taught rescue dalmatian American Sign Language

About a month or so ago, I attended an online marketing workshop and wound up buying a book.

The author, Connie Bombaci, lives in Connecticut, not Illinois. But she had asked the moderators a question about marketing her book. And her pitch for the book was so sincere – a story about hope and overcoming challenges – that I immediate spoke up and asked where I could get more information.

The book is called “Hogan’s Hope.” It’s the story of how Bombaci rescued an abused, malnourished and deaf dalmatian; restored his health; and then worked on his communication skills by teaching him more than 70 signs in American Sign Language.

Bombaci wrote three versions of it: the “main” book, the same book with the additional of Bible verses and Christian perspectives, and an illustrated book for children. After the workshop, Bombaci reached out to me by email and offered to send a complimentary copy.

I chose the “Christian” version, which I am reading now. I will review “Hogan’s Hope” in Tuesday’s free LocalLit newsletter. In the meantime, check out Hogan and Bombaci on YouTube under Connie Bombaci or Hogan’s Hope.
