A fourth grade student at Trinity Christian School in Shorewood recently served as WGN TV’s Friday Forecaster
Ashley Pilon, 10, of Minooka appeared with meteorologist Paul Konrad as WGN TV’s Friday Forecaster on April 23.
According to the WGN website, the Friday Forecasters are students that attend schools in the Earth Networks. They are selected “because they show exemplary work in the classroom,” the website also said.
Jon Vugteveen, Trinity Christian Administrator, said in a news release from the school that Ashley demonstrates that exemplary effort and that she is “vibrant, creative and outgoing.”
“Ashley leads by example and she looks for opportunities to bless others and live out her faith.” Vugteveen said in the release.
In the release, Ashley said two of her favorite activities are singing and dancing.
Trinity Christian School became part of Earth Networks in October of 2015 when a “Weatherbug” weather station was installed on the roof of the Shorewood school in memory of Melvin “Mel” and Betty Rull of Joliet.
The Weatherbug allows sciences students to stay informed of the weather by tracking certain atmospheric conditions, such as wind speed and direction, precipitation, temperature and humidity, in real time.
Students are able to monitor changing weather patterns right at school, which “impacts student safety and preparedness in the event of severe weather,” the release said.
