Frankfort students raise more than $35,900 for American Heart Association

Chelsea Intermediate School’s Kid Heart Challenge was held during April

\Chelsea Intermediate School in Frankfort participated in the American Heart Association Kid Heart Challenge that was held throughout the month of April.

Special celebration events were held April 28 and April 29.

Over the past month, the students learned how physical activity decreases stress, how to prevent heart disease, the dangers of smoking and vaping and the importance of drinking enough water and taking care of their hearts, according to a news release from Frankfort School District 157-C.

Students could also choose between four “heart-pumping” activities: jumping rope, dancing, competing in an obstacle course or basketball, according to the release. Their participation helped them earn money for additional physical education equipment “that encourages students to exercise their healthy heart,” the release said.

Chelsea students and their families set a goal or raising $20,000 for the American Heart Association and actually raised $35,917.77 during the Kids Heart Challenge.

The Kids Heart Challenge was formerly known as Jump Rope for Heart. Schools across the U.S. holds these challenges,“ delivering heart-healthy physical activity and service learning through the American Heart Association,” the release said.
