Lockport drafting and design students win awards at IDEA state competition

3 students named state champions for architecture design team

On April 16 and April 17, Lockport Township High School CAD/drafting students were part of the 185 students competing virtually at the 2021 Illinois Design Educators Association State Competition.

For the CAD contests, student had to solve and draw a drawing problem within two hours and then submit it online.

In team division, the students received a design problem in January to solve and then submitted their solutions vis video presentations.

The various groups also submitted drawings, pictures and videos of the working prototype online.

Architects, engineers, college professors and students in this field grade the designs.

IDEA awards one state champion, two second places, and three third places for each design contest.

The following students won awards:

Jake Ruff, Bilal Useini, and Pamela Hernandez-Espiritu were named state champions for the architecture design team.

Michael Strahanoski placed second in introductory CAD.

Zachary Glowczynski and Scott Szymkowiak both placed second in machine CAD.

Braeden Goebbert placed second and Nicholas Chamiga placed third in 3D modeling.

Nate Landig and Chance Tyler both placed third in assembly modeling. Nate is the first freshman at LTHS to place at state.

Elizabeth “Lisa” Snyder and Adrian Janik placed third in architecture 3D.

Emma Oster, Adrianna Garza and Yasmin Alaya placed third in engineering design team.
