Joliet, Plainfield Lions hosting fundraisers in July and August

Proceeds benefit charities the Lions support

As the world continues to work its away through the pandemic, two local Lions organizations are returning to programming and fundraising.

The Joliet Noon Lions will host “Night at the Slammers” on July 16. Tickets are $10 each. The night will also include fireworks and then “Share the Pot Raffle,” according to a news release from the Joiet Noon Lions.

The Plainfield Lions will host its first “Plainfield Lions Luau, Pig Roast and Silent Auction” on Aug. 14, according to a news release from the Plainfield Lions.

The event will be held from 6 to 11 p.m. at the Plainfield American Legion Marne Post 13, located at 24741 W. Renwick Road in Plainfield.

Tickets for the event are $50 and include an Uncle Bub’s smoked pig roast dinner, three sides, two drink tickets, live music from 7 to 10 p.m. a late-night luau “fire dance show” and silent auction, the release said.

Proceeds benefit charities the Plainfield Lions supports, the release said.

This fall, The Joliet Noon Lions also plan to hold a Candy Day and a pancake breakfast and raffle.

The Joliet Noon Lions also recently donated $1,000.00 to several Lions of Illinois initiatives. The Lions donated $400 to the Illinois Low Vision Clinic, $500 toward the District 1 B/K Scholarship Fund and $100 to the Sights and Sounds Sweepstakes, according to the release.

Projects that the Lions funds on the district and state level include low vision clinics, scholarships, mobile retinal screening unit, mobile hearing unit, hearing aid bank, recycling of glasses, hearing aids, keys and cell phones, health fairs, Lions of Illinois Eye Research Institute in Chicago, and Camp Lions for adults and children with sight, hearing, and/or physical challenges, according to the release.
