Have time to give? Morris Hospital needs you

Volunteers are needed in 3 key areas

Morris Hospital currently needs volunteers to serve in the following areas: patient transportation, surgical waiting room, and its auxiliary gift shop.

Patient transportation

Morris Hosital needs both drivers and drivers’ assistants, which work in pairs. Drivers operate the handicap accessible vehicle; assistants help navigate the route, which includes Grundy County and portions of LaSalle, Kendall, Will and Livingston counties. Drivers and drivers’ assistants work together to patients on and off the vehicle, according to a news release from the hospital

Drivers and drive assistants must at least age 21 and have a valid driver’s license. A CDL driver’s license is not required. Shifts range from four to six hours on weekdays. Morris Hospital prefers drivers and drivers’ assistants work at least one shift during the week but “frequency of volunteering can be adjusted according to the volunteer’s schedule,” the news release said.

Surgical waiting room

Volunteers are needed from 6 to 10 a.m. weekdays. Duties include keepinng family members informed while loved ones are in surgery “by interacting with both hospital staff and patients’ family members,” the release said.

Gift shop

Volunteers must be at least 16 years old and able to work weekends or 3 to 6 p.m. weekdays. Requirements include good customer service skills and the ability to operate the gift store cash register.

Training and appreciation

All Morris Hospital volunteers receive thorough orientation and training for their specific responsibilities as well as uniforms and a pitcture ID.

In appreciation, volunteers also receive “complimentary flu shots, a meal in the hospital on the day of service, and recognition for service hours,” the news release said.
