Thanksgiving cheer came early Monday morning at the McDonald’s at 1421 Riverboat Center in Joliet, with a giveaway of turkeys, trimmings, and baked goods starting at 8 a.m.
This was the first time the McDonalds’ Operators of Chicagoland’s Food for the Body & Spirit event came to Joliet, according to a news release from event organizers.
The Chicago’s Black McDonald’s Operators Association began Food for the Body & Spirit 21 years ago to help Chicago area-people in need during the holiday season, In 2020, however, organizers expanded the event in beyond the Chicago area community, the release said.
The event is now a 10-day event where 5,500 holiday meal boxes will be donated to families in need at McDonald’s locations in Northwest Indiana and North, South and West suburban Chicago neighborhoods, the release said.
Northern Illinois Food Bank and Bimbo Bakeries USA have partnered with these events, the release said.
