Morris Hospital Foundation offers scholarships to students in health care related fields

Morris Hospital's interventional prep/recovery, is a relatively new area where the hospital gets patients ready for a procedure in the cath lab or interventional radiology and then recovers patients following the procedure.

The Morris Hospital Foundation encouages students to pursue health care related studies by offering scholarships, according to a news release from Morris Hospital.

Students may apply for one or all scholarships that pertain to them. Simply check the appropriate boxes on the scholarship application, according to the release.

Completed scholarship applications must be postmarked by April 8. Scholarship winners will be announced in May, according to the release. Apply at morrishospital.org/scholarships.

Here are the available scholarships:

The $1,000 Carol Harrington Endowed Morris Hospital Foundation Scholarship and the $1,000 Relucio Family Healthcare Scholarship

• Will be each be awarded to a student who is pursuing an undergraduate education in a health care related field.

• Applicants must be accepted into, or currently enrolled in, a hospital-related health care curriculum at an accredited college, university or vocational/technical school.

• Applicants also must reside in one of the 19 communities that Morris Hospital serves: Braceville, Braidwood, Channahon, Coal City, Dwight, Gardner, Kinsman, Marseilles, Mazon, Minooka, Morris, Newark, Ottawa, Ransom, Seneca, South Wilmington, Verona, Wilmington and Yorkville.

The $4,000 Betty J. Sterritt Nursing Scholarship

• Will be awarded over a period of two years to a student pursuing an education in nursing.

• Applicants must reside in or be from Grundy County.

• Applicants must intend to serve as a nurse at a health care facility in Grundy County after they complete their education.

The Hugo Avalos Endowed Scholarship

• Awards up to $5,000 to a student who has been accepted into, or is currently enrolled in, an accredited medical school, nurse practitioner or physician’s assistant program.

• Applicants must be or have been a resident of Illinois.

The Morris Hospital Foundation’s three, $1,000 scholarships

• Applicants must be Morris Hospital employees and/or dependents of Morris Hospital employees.

• Applicants must be pursuing an education in health care.
