Louis Joliet Chapter DAR names 6 students a ‘Good Citizen’ for 2021-2022

Students were honored Feb. 5 at the American Legion Marne Post 13 in Plainfield.

On Saturday, Feb. 5, 2022, the Louis Joliet Chapter NSDAR held a recognition program for the six students named the Louis Joliet Chapter DAR Good Citizen for 2021-2022, according to a news release from chapter. On Feb. 5, the Louis Joliet Chapter NSDAR held a recognition program for the six students named the Louis Joliet Chapter DAR Good Citizen for 2021-2022, according to a news release from chapter.

The program was held at the American Legion Marne Post 13 in Plainfield.

The students are Lillian Luangsomkham from Joliet Central, Madison Aharrah from Joliet West, Zoi Jonihakis from Plainfield Central, Angelina Beasley from Plainfield East, Kayla DeGuzman from Plainfield North and Alexis Mikuska from Joliet Catholic Academy.

Alexis won the DAR Good Citizen essay contest winner and received a $100 scholarship award. This year’s essay topic was “How do the qualities of a good citizen help support our nation?”

Each winner of the essay contest moves to the district, state, division and national levels of competition.

In addition, Jonathan Montesinos from Joliet Central was awarded a certificate and $25 monetary award for his short story entry to the Junior American Citizen contest titled “Thank You, Brother.”

Individual schools select a DAR Good Citizen is chosen by their individual school and gives the information to the local DAR chapter. These students may participate in the DAR Good Citizen Essay Contest.

Each chapter essay contest participant receives a $25 gift card, The chapter winner moves up to the district level of competition. Each level winner continues to move up to state, division and national levels.
