Lincoln-Way East’s top-seeded baseball team needed to play extra innings to win a Class 4A regional championship Monday.
The Griffins edged visiting Sandburg, the No. 8 seed, 5-4, pushing across the winning run in the bottom of the 11th.
Each team scored one run in the ninth inning.
Alex Stanwich (double) and Landen Looper (RBI) each went 2 for 5 for Lincoln-Way East. Joey Boland pitched one inning and earned the win. Looper started on the mound and pitched five innings, allowing three runs (one earned) with seven strikeouts.
Plainfield South 12, Romeoville 6: At Plainfield South, the second-seeded Cougars won a Class 4A regional final, despite spotting the 10th-seeded Spartans a 6-0 lead after an inning and a half.
Matt Kelliher pitched five no-hit, scoreless innings in relief, striking out 10 for Plainfield South. Zander Tubbs (1 for 2) homered and drove in four runs, and Kelliher had a double. Brennan Phillips was 1 for 1 with three walks and two RBIs for Plainfield South, which broke a 6-6 tie with six runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Nick Kolze was 2 for 4 with a double and four RBIs for Romeoville, and Tyler Spiecker went 2 for 4 as well.
Marist 6, Lincoln-Way West 1: At Marist, the seventh-seeded Warriors took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first of the Class 4A regional final, but the second-seeded RedHawks responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning and never relinquished the lead.
Lincoln-Way West managed just four singles.
Minooka 5, Moline 0: At Minooka, Jake Cook and Josh Davis combined on a three-hitter for the Indians in a Class 4A regional final.
Caleb Parker was 3 for 3 for Minooka, which got two RBIs apiece from Mitch Thomas (1 for 3, double) and Davis (1 for 3).
Cook pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing two hits and striking out four. Davis tossed the final 1⅔ innings, striking out two.
Joliet West 16, Normal Community West 0: At Normal Community West, the third-seeded Tigers won the Class 4A regional final in five innings, dispatching the No. 2 seed, as Jimmy Anderson pitched a two-hitter with six strikeouts and no walks.
Camden Karczewski was 3 for 5 with a double and two RBIs for Joliet West, and James Love went 3 for 4 with three RBIs. Anderson (2 for 3, two RBIs) and Ty Batusich both tripled. Matt Stariha was 2 for 4 with two RBIs.
Lemont 12, De La Salle 2: At Lemont, Brady Small homered twice and knocked in four runs, leading the third-seeded Indians past the No. 11 seed in the Class 3A regional final.
Luke Wallace also homered for Lemont, which got 2-for-3 efforts from Small, Jake Wilk, Austin Murray (RBI) and Alex Tagler (double).
Brandon Johnson pitched all five innings for the Indians, allowing six hits and striking out seven.
Chicago Christian 4, Joliet Catholic 0: At Chicago Christian, the No. 2 seed scored all of its runs in the bottom of the fifth inning en route to a Class 2A regional championship.
Luka Radicevich was 3 for 3 with a double to lead No. 3 JCA at the plate. Aidan Voss was 2 for 4.
Homewood-Flossmoor 6, Lockport 5: At Homewood-Flossmoor, the fifth-seeded Porters scored twice in the top of the seventh to pull within one of the fourth-seeded Vikings in a Class 4A regional final, but their rally fell short.
Griffin Brown, Victor Izquerdo and Ryan Moerman all homered for Lockport. Brown finished 3 for 4 with two RBIs, Moerman was 2 for 3 with two RBIs, and Matt Santarelli finished 2 for 4 with a double.

Romeoville 2, Marian Catholic 0: At Romeoville, the 15th-seeded Spartans captured a 25-19, 25-10 win over the No. 19 seed in a regional quarterfinal.
Plainfield South 2, Plainfield Central 0: At Plainfield Central, the eighth-seeded Cougars dispatched the sixth-seeded Wildcats, 25-16, 25-21, in a regional quarterfinal.
Plainfield East 2, Joliet Catholic 0: At Plainfield East, the fifth-seeded Bengals outlasted the 11th-seeded Hilltoppers, 26-24, 25-22, in a regional quarterfinal.
Joliet West 2, Minooka 0: At Joliet West, the ninth-seeded Tigers beat the 10th-seeded Indians, 25-19, 25-17, in a regional quarterfinal.
Providence 2, Joliet Central 0: At Providence, the seventh-seeded Celtics knocked off the 12th-seeded Steelmen, 25-16, 25-18 in a regional quarterfinal.

Lincoln-Way West 14, Providence 5: At Lincoln-Way West, the second-seeded Warriors won the sectional quarterfinal.
Lockport 10, Lemont 9: At Lockport, the third-seeded Porters edged the sixth-seeded Indians in the sectional quarterfinal.
Neuqua Valley 19, Plainfield North 3: At Neuqua Valley, the top-seeded Wildcats cruised in the sectional quarterfinal.
GIRLS LACROSSE
O’Fallon 17, Plainfield East 4: At O’Fallon, the No. 8 seed cruised past the No. 9 seed in the sectional preliminary round.
WRESTLING
Seneca 72, Monmouth Roseville 6: At Monmouth Roseville, the Irish received pins from Kyler Hahn (113),
Jaden Casey (126), Owen Feiner (132) and Justin Lavarier (138).
Seneca 37, Riverdale 37: At Monmouth Roseville, according to results submitted by Seneca, the meet official determined Riverdale the winner via tiebreaker.
According to Seneca, the mat official determined Riverdale won based on four falls to three falls but forgot to factor in the forfeits, which should be included in Criteria E. Because it received two forfeits, Seneca said it should have been declared the winner because of a 5-4 advantage in falls and forfeit victories.
The final outcome is under review.
