A big start to the second half helped propel Peotone to a 45-27 win over host Streator in an Illinois Central Eight Conference girls basketball game Thursday night, keeping the Blue Devils undefeated.
Madi Schroeder had 11 points, six assists and six steals for Peotone (4-0, 3-0 IC8), which led only 15-10 at halftime, before outscoring the Bulldogs 17-7 in the third quarter and 13-10 in the fourth. Danielle Piper also scored 11 points for the Blue Devils. Mady Kibelkis contributed nine points and five steals.
Lincoln-Way West 55, Homewood-Flossmoor 52: At Lincoln-Way West, Ava Gugliuzza led the Warriors in scoring with 15 points.
Evan Pittman scored 14 and Tara Gugliuzza had 13.
Seneca 64, Midland 34: At Midland, the visiting Irish remained undefeated, jumping out to a 24-0 lead after one quarter en route to the Tri-County Conference win.
Brooklyn Giertz and Kennedy Hartwig led Seneca (6-0, 4-0) with 12 and 11 points, respectively. The Irish also got offensive contributions from Haley Einhaus (seven points), Faith Deering (six) and Addie Eltrevoog (six).
Lincoln-Way Central 63, Andrew 15: At Lincoln-Way Central, the host Knights cruised, improving to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in the Southwest Suburban Conference.
Kaitlyn Veugeler had 11 points for Central, and Haley Stoklosa added nine.
Coal City 54, Manteno 41: At Manteno, Hayliegh Roach had 19 points (three 3-pointers), eight steals and three assists for the Coalers.
Molly Stiles grabbed 15 rebounds.
Gardner-South Wilmington 52, Grant Park 31: At Grant Park, Abby Beck (16 points), Addi Fair (12) and Kylie Hawks (11) all scored in double figures.
Gardner-South improved to 6-0 and 3-0 in the RVC.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Prairie Central 80, Dwight 43: At Dwight, Illinois-Wesleyan commit Trey Bazzell poured in a game-high 29 points, including three 3-pointers, for the visiting Hawks, who bolted to a 25-6 lead after one quarter.
Dwight was led by Brandon Ceylor’s 19 points and Isaac Tetford’s 11.
BOYS SWIMMING
Lincoln-Way East 108, Lincoln-Way West 77: At Frankfort, Austin Meldeau and Joey Lundgren each won two individual events and swam on two winning relays to power the Griffins.
Meldeau captured the 50-yard freestyle and 100 free, while Lundgren touched first in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke. They collaborated with Jake Fisher and Cooper Cunningham on the victorious 200 medley relay. East won the 400 free relay with Meldeau, Lundgren, Fisher and Luke Jaworowski. The Griffins’ other winners were Nick Karana (diving) and David Nelson (500 free).
West received a pair of wins from Sean Finley (200 IM, 100 breaststroke) and one from Gavin Boomsma (200 free). The Warriors won the 200 free relay with Finley, Boomsma, Mason McGann and Joe Valente.
Lincoln-Way Central 116, Stagg 61: At Stagg, Knights senior Joe Bozzi set the school record in the 100 freestyle and also the pool record.
BADMINTON
Lincoln-Way Central 9, Homewood-Flossmoor 6: At Lincoln-Way Central, the Knights improved to 3-2 overall and 3-2 in the Southwest Suburban Conference.
Lincoln-Way West 10, Bolingbrook 5: At Lincoln-Way West, Emma So and Rachel Mitchell won at No. 2 doubles for the Warriors. So, Alyssa Barta, Megan Cook, Morgan Antis and Amanda Gerl all won their singles matches.
GIRLS BOWLING
Plainfield Central 2,654, Yorkville 2,037: At Plainfield Central, junior Grace Dillingham rolled a 239 game for the Wildcats, and sophomore Kathleen Schraer posted a team-best 586 series.
Joliet Central 2,125, Romeoville 1,708: At Bowlero, the visiting Steelwomen were led by Devon Thomas (team-best 485 series, 170 high game), Christine Butler (451, 182) and Maddalynn Butler (418, team-best 188 game).
BOYS BOWLING
Plainfield Central 3,157, Yorkville 2,873: At Yorkville, captain Mason Craig bowled a 680 series to lead the visiting Wildcats.
Fellow senior and three-year varsity starter Chris Beinvenu rolled a 672 series, while freshman Jacob Chavez (616) and Ben Smith (596) also contributed to the win.
WEDNESDAY’S RESULT
Plainfield Central 3,236, Plainfield North 2,539: At Plainfield Central, Mason Craig’s 647 series paced the host Wildcats. Jacob Chavez and Chris Beinvenu had 642 and 634 series, respectively. Ben Smith (619) and Jack LaLonde (609) also bowled well.
