Plainfield Central graduate Taylor Landfair earns First Team All-Big Ten, All-Freshman honors in first year at Minnesota

The true freshman helped the Golden Gophers to a 15-2 record as the team starts NCAA Tournament play this week

Former Plainfield Central volleyball standout Taylor Landfair kept raking in recognition for her play as a true freshman at the University of Minnesota.

Landfair recently was named to the First Team All-Big Ten team and to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team after a regular season in which the Golden Gophers went 15-2 ahead of the NCAA Tournament.

She averaged three kills a set this season, led her team in match kills five times and recorded double-digit kills in 11 matches. She recorded a season-high 22 kills Feb. 14 against Penn State.

Landfair also averaged .53 blocks a set and had eight aces, including five the final two games of the regular season against Iowa.

Her 186 kills ranked second for Minnesota. She twice was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week.

Minnesota will begin play in the NCAA Tournament as a No. 3 seed Thursday against No. 23 Georgia Tech (14-4).

While at Plainfield Central, Landfair was named the Herald-News player of the year in 2018 and shared the award in 2019, and she made the all-area team all four years.
