Yard waste pickup in Joliet will resume Monday.
The city announced rules for yard waste pickup, which was suspended for the winter but will continue from Monday through Dec. 9.
Yard waste eligible for pickup includes grass, shrubbery cuttings, leaves, twigs, tree branches, and “other materials accumulated as the result of lawn care,” according to a news release from the city.
Residents should put yard waste at their regular pickup spots by 7 a.m. of regularly scheduled days for collection of garbage and recycling.
Yard waste must be placed in permanent-type, 32-gallon refuse containers labeled with “Yard Waste Only” stickers or in 30-gallon, disposable Kraft paper bags. Stickers are not required on the bags. Yard waste will not be collected in plastic bags or in containers larger than 32 gallons.
The “Yard Waste Only” stickers are free at the information desk at the Joliet Municipal Building at 150 W. Jefferson St. and at Jewel-Osco stores in the city at 1401 W. Jefferson St., 1537 N. Larkin Avenue and 2480 Rt. 59.
Brush and branches may be placed in the containers or bags. They also may be tied in bundles not exceeding 4 feet in length or weighing more than 50 pounds per bundle. No single piece within each bundle should exceed 3 inches in diameter. Stickers are not required for the bundles. Unbundled brush will not be collected.
“Old landscaping mulch, dirt, sod, rocks, and dog feces are considered garbage, not yard waste, and should be placed with garbage for disposal, not with yard waste” according to the release.
Yard waste containers must contain only yard waste. State law prohibits loads of yard waste mixed with other refuse, according to the release.
